EXPO 2025
THE REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE PRESENTS THE FUTURE IT BUILDS WITH ITS DEEP-ROOTED HERITAGE TO THE WORLD AT WORLD EXPO 2025 OSAKA, JAPAN

World Expo 2025 Osaka, to be held in the city of Osaka, Japan from April 13 to October 13, 2025, will bring together 165 countries, regions, and international organizations under the main theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” It is expected to host approximately 25 million visitors from different parts of the world.

Türkiye at Expo 2025 Osaka with the Theme “Heyday of Civilizations”

Türkiye is preparing to participate in World Expo 2025 Osaka with its pavilion themed “Heyday of Civilizations,” offering a journey that unites history and innovation. Türkiye will also celebrate its National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka on April 23, coinciding with National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.

Covering an area of approximately 900 square meters in Osaka, the Türkiye Pavilion features an architecture that reflects Anatolia’s rich cultural heritage with a modern design approach. The concept is inspired by the “Kün-Ay” symbol carried by Turks since Central Asia and found in the traces of ancient civilizations in Anatolia. The “Kün-Ay” symbol also highlights the common elements of the Turkish and Japanese flags.

While the Türkiye Pavilion highlights the deep-rooted friendship and shared vision for the future between the two nations, it will strongly showcase Türkiye’s development in all areas—social, technological, and economic—at Expo 2025 Osaka.

We Unite Our Ancient Values with People Around the World on April 23 at the Expo

Türkiye’s National Day at the Expo will be celebrated on April 23, 2025, with the enthusiasm of National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. Cultural and artistic performances will promote the idea of building the society of the future together. Traditional Turkish arts, exhibitions, and interactive workshops will bring the cultures of both nations together, while offering visitors the unique tastes of Turkish cuisine.

Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat emphasized the importance of National Day celebrations by stating:

“We believe that through cultural interaction, societies can learn from each other and build a more peaceful, fair, and stronger world. With this belief, we are happy to be at Expo 2025 Osaka and to share our ancient values with people from all around the world. As we build the future together, we know that a peaceful world will rise through today’s children.”

The Story of Friendship from Past to Future with the Ertuğrul Frigate

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Türkiye and Japan date back to 1887. In 1890, the Ertuğrul Frigate was sent to Japan by Sultan Abdulhamid II to deliver gifts and messages of friendship to Emperor Meiji. The ship tragically sank off the coast of Kushimoto, but this unfortunate event established a profound historical bond between the two countries. The Ertuğrul Frigate, a timeless symbol of these relations, is given a special place in the Türkiye Pavilion.

Over time, the friendly cooperation between Türkiye and Japan has deepened and evolved into collaborations in various fields. In 2024, the two nations celebrated the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations with great enthusiasm, further strengthening their ties.

Sectoral Cooperation Between Türkiye and Japan, Especially in Energy, Automotive, and Technology, Will Continue to Grow

Japan, a significant trade and investment partner for Türkiye, has steadily increased its investments in the country over the years, diversifying sectoral collaborations. Joint projects in energy, automotive, and technology have contributed to economic growth and increased trade volume, reaching $5.4 billion in 2024. With ongoing negotiations for the Türkiye-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), the goal is to establish a more sustainable structure for commercial cooperation.

Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat also highlighted the importance of Expo for bilateral economic relations:

“I believe Expo offers an important opportunity to set new goals for the future by building on past successes. We see Expo 2025 Osaka as a platform to promote Turkish products in the Japanese market, increase cultural awareness, and further enhance the already strong relations between the two countries. Events like this deepen our strategic partnership and strengthen our commitment to sustainable development and global peace.”
